The Act of Love Project

Day 4
Today's act came after an incredibly lazy day. I had considered cleaning out my closet to donate clothes or going to donate to a food pantry, however, I was overwhelmingly exhausted and lacking some major motivation. Those projects shall wait for another day. Today I listened to a very good friend who is incredibly strong, talented and beautiful inside and out. She is going through some personal issues (so she shall remain nameless) and she needed a friend to talk to. I was there to listen and to remind her that she is an amazing woman who WILL get through the struggle. I also reminded myself that love can take many forms and it does not have to include money (as my last two have). Love is giving of oneself to another in hopes that it will help that person in some way.

Day 3
Today's act of love came after a very long hard day. I woke up very early to go buy a car this morning, as mine was recently in an accident and taken as a total loss. After spending the morning at the car dealer and not being able to get my payments as low as I had hoped, I had to go straight to the doctors office for my appointment. If you know me, you know that doctors stress me out and I'd rather not deal with them. However, I went. As I was leaving, I went to go pay for my parking. I had been given a full validation pass (the bright side of my day). I put the first ticket in and my total was $1.50. I looked over to the lane next to me to see that an older gentleman was leaving and is screen said $15.00. I handed him my full validation ticket and put my money in my machine. He tried to give it back to me. I told him that it looked like he had had a long day, and I had already put my money in the machine, so he could either take it or pass it on to the next person. He thanked me and put it in the machine. My day may have been long and taxing, but his looked to be much longer than mine and I am glad that I could do something for him after having been at the hospital for what looked like an extreme amount of time. Hopefully he is inspired to do the same for someone else if he ever gets the opportunity. If not, I am grateful that I was given the chance to brighten his day.

Day 2

Today I wanted to focus more globally on my act of love. While hanging with Skyler, I was told about a company that helped Ugandan women become more empowered. These women are taught a craft and given the opportunity to sell what they make online. While looking at the website, I found a dress. I decided that I would buy the dress to help the company. I love that the company helps women in a historically conflicted area provide for themselves and their families. Hopefully, by empowering the people, the communities will be rebuilt and peace will come. Furthermore, the mission of the ladies that started the organization is the same as mine: to make the world a better place. Above is a link to the website. They have some beautifully hand crafted items and the money that you are giving helps people help themselves.

Day 1
Today begins a new year. I have been trying for months to decide what my New Years resolution would be. So many people helped me in 2011 and I wanted to do something for them. Since it would be impossible to help these people the way that they helped me (unless one of them contracted a staph infection), I decided the best way to do something for them was to pay it forward. The resolution is simple: Commit one selfless act of love every single day. So, here goes nothing.
Today, I made a wonderful friend cheer up while she was upset. She was very upset and needed someone to talk things out with. While a small act, being there to listen really helped her clarify things. Now, the phone call did end up with my cell phone being handed around the room (so I can't take full credit) and much hilarity ensued (as the people I surround myself with are funny). However, this brightened her day and made her smile. That is the point of the project. To make someone else smile. Day 1= Success.
